FDF & the Savannah of Slaves

DESCRIPTION

From the Pointe du bout site, a maritime shuttle crosses the legendary Fort-de-France bay in 20 minutes, one of the 30 most beautiful bays in the world since the 2012 ranking.

On arrival in the capital Fort-de-France, shopping is open in the town's stalls.

The guide suggests visiting the local spice, fruit and vegetable market.

You will see listed and emblematic monuments of the capital: the eclectic-style Schœlcher library; Fort Saint-Louis built in 1710; the Saint-Louis cathedral dating from 1891…

A Creole aperitif and lunch are served in a restaurant nestled on a working farm. Continuing south, you will visit the surprising Savannah of the Slaves, a renovated site which wonderfully interprets significant episodes in the life of the slave-chestnuts who once fled the plantations. Traditional huts, clay floors, or dried leaf roofs bear witness to the past.

At the heart of the site, a hut-museum entitled "In memory of our ancestors" reveals life-size statues carved in hard Mahogany wood and which illustrate scenes from the lives of slaves.

5.30 p.m. - Return to the hotel.
