DESCRIPTION

Departing from the port of Deshaies, your adventure begins in the highlands of Deshaies, where you can admire the mangroves and coral reefs of the Grand-Cul-de-Sac Marin, a 15,000 hectare bay and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Then, travel along the leeward coast alternating between forested paths and sandy coastline. After passing through the quaint town of Pointe-Noire, your guide will take you on a journey to discover the best of what Basse-Terre has to offer. Traverse dense tropical forest to reach waterfalls with crystal clear water, rivers and natural swimming pools. With a keen eye, you may see hummingbirds, dragonflies and mongoose.

From beneath the forest canopy, you will discover the splendor of the primary forest with the cacophony of frogs filling the air. You will then make your way south to visit the beach and lighthouse at the beautiful bay of Anse à la Barque, located between Bouillante and Vieux-Habitants. This historic place was not only a fiercely disputed zone between the French and English fighting over territories, but also a place where pirates and buccaneers are said to have come long ago to anchor and hide their gold.

You will continue south to stop in the charming small village of Vieux-Habitants, the oldest city in Guadeloupe. Enjoy a lunch with local delicacies and fresh food in a typical Caribbean restaurant. Then, travel along the coastal pathways to reach an old coconut grove.

Then, journey along rivers to admire the fruit plantations and fields of flowers. With the some luck, you might be able to see the foothills of the volcano or a humpback whale or dolphin jumping in the water.

During this excursion, you can appreciate the vast richness of the forests of the National Park (Le Parc National de la Guadeloupe), the dry forests with cacti and succulents, and humid and semi-humid forests. With stops along the way, you will be able to learn about the history and heritage of Guadeloupe.

At the end of the afternoon, you arrive at the natural hot springs of Bouillante to watch the sunset, so please remember to bring your swimsuit for an unforgettable dip. Afterwards, you head back to Deshaies with the colors in the sky from the setting sun in the distance.
